INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING
Introduction to community development and community service learning: umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu is ALYCDO’S third step and foundational rock in what ALYCDO has adopted as its “ongoing youth development philosophy” that spans over a three-year period as a basic standard.
ALYCDO believes that all personal leadership development starts at the community level. ALYCDO also believes in the African saying umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu (An individual is an individual because of the community and is part of the community). This communal connection lays down the basis of our other belief that to explore personal leadership knowledge and tools picked up in the last two years of engagement what better stage than the communities our youth participants come from. This instills in the young African child a sense of awareness and acknowledgement that they are part of the community solutions designed to contribute to the welfare and wellbeing of their local communities in the best way they perceive and know how.
